Learn Spanish in San Sebastián

San Sebastián

Grand and glamorous, San Sebastián has been wowing visitors since the time of Napoleon.

San Sebastián defines elegance. Townhouses and cafes are perched on expansive beaches. The compact old town turns a lovely gold colour in the evening light. A long sweeping promenade provides Instagramable sunset views. Broad city streets are covered with shops, cafes and pintxos bars. Everywhere looks like a postcard, without a single stone out of place.

This is a city that is both beach break and city chic rolled into one. You can’t not relax here. You can’t not have fun. It’s one of those places where you come for two weeks and want to stay for four. Or you stay for four weeks and want to live in San Sebastian forever.

There are three distinct areas you’re likely to spend your time. The famous shell-shaped beach is surrounded by shopping streets and pintxos bars (Basques tapas). The old town is compact, packed with little bars and restaurants to try. Zurriola beach has a modern atmosphere, with surfers on the waves and lively local streets.

Pintxos

Pintxos are little culinary snacks that line the bars throughout San Sebastián. They’re unique to the Basque region, offering fine dining food with all the fun of tapas. Hopping between pintxos bars is the number one thing to do in the city.

Old town

Visit to the Kursaal Donostia in San Sebastián. The building has been awarded with the Take a walk along streets of cobblestone and charm in San Sebastian’s old town. Tiny doorways lead to bars and cafes. Narrow streets bring you to a glamorous old plaza with outdoor terraces. And each way you turn there’s another surprise to uncover.

City beaches

San Sebastian’s incredibly clean beaches have space for everyone. They are where you go to relax after a day of classes. One is shell-shaped and sheltered, ideal for a quiet swim; the other is where locals go to sunbathe and surf.

Monte Igueldo

Take the funicular railway (or walk!) to Monte Igeldo and you enjoy unrivalled views of San Sebastián and the coast. From up here it feels like the world is at your feet. Most of our Spanish students visit Monte Igeldo many times, such is its beauty.

Surfing

San Sebastian’s surf breaks are a part of the city. Just take a few steps from the streets and you can be in the waves. It’s easy to rent boards and book beginner lessons, or just hang out on the beach and watch how the locals do it.
