Cuarto Real de Santo Domingo, Granada

A few meters from Linguaschools Granada, in the famous Realejo neighborhood, is the Cuarto Real de Santo Domingo. It’s a palace that was used by both the Arab Kings and the Catholic Monarchs. Isabel la Católica bought this palace from Queen Aixa, mother of Boabdil, also known as Abu Abdallah Muhammad XII, the last Moorish sultan of Granada.

The Granada City Council acquired the Cuarto Real in 1990 to restore it. After years of works, it finally opened to both citizens and tourists in 2015.

The palace has beautiful gardens full of flowers, plants, and fountains characteristic of the Arab culture. Additionally, inside the palace, the Royal Room stands out as one of the most spectacular ones. It’s a room of about 7 square meters that bears a great similarity to the Alhambra and its characteristic mosaics. Besides, sometimes art exhibitions are held on the upper floor.

The visit to the Cuarto Real de Santo Domingo is completely free. This building is open to the public from Monday to Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (winter) or from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. 00 (summer).
