What’s on in October 2020 in Barcelona?

Are you in Barcelona in October to learn Spanish but you wonder what you can do in your free time? Although there will be a lot of things different this fall, you don’t have to get bored for a moment! Here are some cool suggestions…

• Paul Strand exhibition in Mapfre: This exhibition comprises 110 photographs out of the 131 by Paul Strand in the Fundación’s collection, which is the most complete on the artist in any European institution.
  Born in New York, Paul Strand (1890-1976) began studying with the social photographer Lewis Hine and later became close friends with Alfred Stieglitz, a photographer and pioneer in the introduction of modern art in the United States. Strand managed to merge these two trends and continued to explore until laying the foundations of modern photography and anticipating what in later years will be known as “direct photography”. His knowledge of contemporary art derived from his personal contacts with artists and art theorists, his intuition and his powers of synthesis all led him to create a body of work outside of his own time.

• Windows Art Circuit: The Windows Art Circuit is a circuit where selected artists take part in stained glass windows, blinds and walls of Poblenou Urban District spaces. This year the WAC will also be held in LAB format, with an artistic residency that will take place inside the ‘Espacio Simon 100’ (Carrer de Sancho de Ávila, 66)The artists will ‘take’ the factory for five days, and their work can be seen during a real live art experience during the Poble Nou open days of October 17th. A unique opportunity to see the creative processes and the relationship between artists and space in a controlled environment and with all the security measures for their visitors. Remember that there is a very limited capacity, so we advise you to get your tickets quickly so we can ensure your attendance.

• • • In-Edit: IN-EDIT is an international network of musical documentary film festivals. Created in Barcelona in 2003, it has organized a total of 42 editions in different countries over the world, showing around 700 musical documentaries throughout its history and currently mobilising more than 100,000 viewers a year.
      This year it will all be online, so you can organise your own festival at home and watch more than 40 documentary’s. Check the full program and buy the festival ticket here.

    • Second hand market: For those who want to safe money this fall but still want to fill up the wardrobe or shop new decorations for the house…the second hand markets organised by Two Market are great. Markets named as “Tardes vintage a la Bostik “Todo a 1€” and “Give’me 5!” can’t disappoint you. Some are in the open air and others inside.       • Open City Thinking at CCCB: Offered as an occasion for people to meet, to look ahead and, contemplating the future scenarios and possibilities that are opening up at a time of great uncertainty, will also lead us to re-evaluate the world as we now know it.       • On Riots, Grief and Parties (Exhibition and activities):widens our understanding of the history of sexual dissent and racialised activisms through archives, interviews, documents, videos and other materials. The exhibition traces an alignment of key moments in feminist culture, the LGBTIQ+ and sexual dissidences by focusing on a variety of queer identities, parties, sex, civil rights and strategies of resistance to oppression.
