Crafting a strong motivation letter (also known as a letter of intent) for a Spanish student visa is crucial for explaining your purpose and proving your legitimacy to the consulate.
The things you should do when writing a visa motivation letter

- Be specific and personal: Do not use a generic template. Tailor the letter to your specific program, university, and personal academic goals. It can help to use an AI to structure your prases or help you with the letter, but make sure it is personal and specific for your situation.
- Structure formally: Write it as a formal letter, including your full name, passport number, and contact details.
- Include key information:
Introduction: State who you are, what you will study, and for how long.
Why Spain & our Spanish school: Explain why you chose to study Spanish in Spain, the specific city, and the institution. Mention specific modules, faculty, or the reputation of the school.
Future plans: Explain how this course helps your career path and that you plan to comply with immigration laws.
Financial means: Briefly mention how you will fund your stay (e.g., savings, parents, scholarship) and confirm that supporting documents are attached.
Keep it short: Ideally, one page (maximum two).
Include mandatory content: Clearly state that you will respect Spanish law and your plans after finishing the studies (e.g., returning home or pursuing further education).
Language: The letter must be in Spanish or accompanied by a sworn translation.
Proofread: Check for grammar and spelling to ensure a professional impression.
What you should NOT do when writing a visa motivation letter

- Generic clichés: Avoid vague phrases like “I love Spain” without explaining your actual connection to the culture or study goals. Avoid sounding like you are going on a vacation. Do not spend time praising Spain’s weather, food, beaches, or nightlife.
- Vague career goals: Avoid saying, “I want to learn Spanish because it’s a global language.” This is too generic. Instead say: “I need to reach a B2 level of Spanish to qualify for a project manager role at [company X] in [your home country], where we handle clients from Spain and/or Latin America.”
- Drama: Keep the tone professional, factual, and controlled rather than overly emotional.
- Contradicting your documents: Maybe obvious, but very important. Ensure your letter matches your paperwork exactly. E.g. if your bank statements show your parents are paying, don’t say you’ve saved up the money yourself.
