Gymkhana and Tradition on Granada’s Día de la Cruz

May is a special month for us at Linguaschools Granada, it’s when we celebrate Día de la Cruz (Day of the Cross), a local festival where the city fills with decorated crosses, music, and traditional dancing, and we get to experience this city’s traditions in full swing!

To help our students dive into the local “granadina” culture and its popular festivities, we took the classroom to the streets, joining in the fun of the occasion.

The Día de la Cruz is officially celebrated on May 3rd, but here in Granada, the festive spirit kicks in early; most people start celebrating on May 1st!

To make the most of the day, our teachers put together a city-wide gymkhana, guiding students through the streets to discover the many beautifully decorated crosses and learn the stories behind them.

After that, we couldn’t resist dancing Sevillanas right there on the streets, the perfect way to wrap up the day!

Our students had a blast discovering one of Granada’s most colorful and joyful traditions while also practicing their Spanish and picking up new vocabulary in a fun, real-world setting.

We’re already looking forward to the next chance to celebrate a typical granaína fiesta! 😍
