Things you didn’t know about The University of Granada

Granada is one of the most popular destinations among students. It’s a beautiful city with spectacular attractions such as the Alhambra and Sierra Nevada, and it’s also home to one of the best universities in the country.

The University of Granada (UGR) is one of the most prestigious Spanish public universities and the fourth with the largest number of students. Founded in 1531 by King Carlos I, it’s the only European university that has two campuses in Africa, since it’s possible to study in Melilla and Ceuta.

The University of Granada has more than 70,000 undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and online students, 22 faculties, 4 technical schools, and 1 affiliated center. While it’s possible to study virtually any discipline, the ones that stand out the most are translation studies, computer engineering, and mathematics.

Given the large number of bars, restaurants, discos, and activities that it offers for a cheap price, Granada is a magnificent city for students. Therefore, UGR is the university that receives more Erasmus students from the rest of Europe. In addition, it’s the university that sends more students outside of Spain.

In the 2017-18 academic year, nearly 55,000 national, European and international students studied in Granada, which makes it a culturally rich city with a great atmosphere.

Some of the most illustrious students of the UGR are the poet Federico García Lorca, the actor Dani Rovira, the singer-songwriter Joaquín Sabina or the current director of the Cervantes Institute, Luis García Montero.
