Skiing in Sierra Nevada, Granada

Granada is one of the best places to learn Spanish in winter and one of its greatest attractions is Sierra Nevada.

Sierra Nevada is a mountainous complex located just 30 kilometers from the city of Granada. Much of its territory is a National Park and it’s famous not only for its stunning beauty but also for being the most southern ski center in Europe. In addition, here is the Mulhacén that with 3,482 meters, is the highest peak in the Iberian Peninsula and the second highest in Spain, only behind the Teide in Tenerife that rises to an elevation of 3,718 meters.

Sierra Nevada is an ideal place to spend the day and practice all kinds of sports throughout the year. However, from December until May 3rd, 2020, it’s a very popular site for ski and snowboard lovers.

One of its biggest attractions is night skiing. On Thursdays and Saturdays from 19 to 22 hours, you can ski for its more than 110 kilometers of slopes and 131 routes.

Sierra Nevada is also a must for snowboard fans. Here you’ll find one of the most complete parks in Europe, with a beginner’s start zone, a halfpipe, a skicross/snowboardcross area, and four slopestyle sectors.

If you’re not a winter sports lover and prefer to relax, on the other hand, this park also has options for you. You can climb the Veleta peak to watch the sunset, enjoy astronomical workshops on Saturday nights, and have some tapas in the multiple bars and restaurants.
