By train (tren)
Travelling by train in Spain is usually a bit more expensive than busses, but for the longer trips it's more convenient. There are a lot of different types of trains. There are fast connections between the north and the south (Intercity and AVE), slower regional connections (e.g. Estrella and Diurno) and around bigger cities there's the local network called Cercanías. Got to www.renfe.es to find out about these different networks, timetables and fares.
By metro
Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao have an excellent underground railway system. Check the following websites for more information:
By car
The most convenient way of travelling by car is via the tollways (vía de peaje). The autopista network is expanding. To see the current status, toll fees and constructions, check out the ASETA website. Toll payment can be made by cash, creditcard or Electronic Toll Collection (ETC). ETC can only be used if you have a special "On Board Equipment" (OBE) device. This can be obtained via the financial institution of the user. To find out which financial institutions issue OBE's, visit www.viat.es.

Car rental in Spain
The bigger (international) car rental companies are located at main airports and in the bigger cities. An efficient way of travelling is to fly to airport A, rent a car, bring the car back at airport B and fly back home from airport B. This requires some puzzling online, but saves a lot time at the end.
