SALAMANCA

Salamanca is one of Spain’s classic university cities, known for its golden sandstone buildings, historic old town, student atmosphere and strong Spanish-speaking environment. It is a relaxed and walkable place to study Spanish, with daily life centred around plazas, cafés, tapas bars, university buildings and pedestrian streets.

The city has a long academic tradition, but it also feels social and lively. Students can explore the Plaza Mayor, the old university area, the cathedrals, local markets and small tapas bars, all within a compact historic centre. This makes Salamanca especially attractive for students who want to practise Spanish naturally outside the classroom.

Salamanca is a good choice for students who prefer a smaller destination with a traditional Spanish atmosphere. You can study in the morning, walk almost everywhere, meet classmates after class and experience Spanish student life in a city that feels historic, social and easy to settle into.

Plaza Mayor

Of all the squares in all of Spain none are as beautiful as the Plaza Mayor in Salamanca. This is the city’s focal point and almost all the old city streets will take you here, where there are terraces and restaurants galore.

Salamanca University

The lively university helps give Salamanca a youthful atmosphere, meaning there’s a buzzing and bustling energy to the historic streets, almost any week of the year. The university is an attraction in itself, including buildings from the 12th century.

Tapas

The best way to spend an evening in Salamanca is eating tapas. Hop between the different bars, grabbing a little bite in each. Or spend many hours in just one. You’ll be amazed how cheap and tasty it all is. Which is why you’ll probably eat tapas on the next day as well.

Old town

Every evening the old town glows a golden colour. Sunset bounces off the sandstone and there’s no prettier place to be. Explore and listen. You won’t hear cars here, you’ll only hear footsteps and Spanish chatter.

Nightlife

For a historic city Salamanca really knows how to party. With so many students around there’s an abundance of bars and clubs to try, each with its own distinct style. It can be loud and fun if you want it. The nightlife is also another chance to improve your Spanish conversation.

Spanish courses in Salamanca

Linguaschools Salamanca offers Spanish courses for different levels, goals and time commitments, from short intensive courses to longer study stays. The courses are designed mainly for adult learners, including international students, longer-stay students, exam-preparation students and students who want a traditional Spanish university-city experience.

Students can choose group courses, combination courses with extra individual lessons, private lessons and DELE exam preparation. Classes are taught in small groups, with students placed according to their Spanish level so they can learn at the right pace and practise with classmates from different countries and backgrounds.

Classes are taught by qualified native Spanish-speaking teachers and follow a communicative, teacher-led immersion approach. Teachers adapt the pace and focus of the class to the level, rhythm and learning needs of the group, while keeping students actively using Spanish from the beginning.

For students planning to stay in Spain for a longer period, Linguaschools Salamanca offers visa-eligible Spanish course options that may be suitable for student visa purposes. Students booking a visa-eligible course can receive personalised guidance on course documentation, timing and the practical steps involved in preparing their Spanish student visa application.
